Optimize your nano tank’s health with the ultra-compact Xilong XY-2835 Bio-Sponge Filter. This air-driven filtration unit is specifically designed for small-volume aquariums, providing a safe and effective biological and mechanical cleaning solution. Its fine-pore sponge offers a massive surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to thrive, ensuring your water remains crystal clear and free of harmful ammonia and nitrites.

Key Features:

  • Ultra-Compact Design: The small footprint makes it the perfect choice for nano tanks, Betta bowls, and desktop aquariums where space is limited.

  • Shrimp & Fry Safe: The gentle suction ensures that even the smallest shrimplets or newborn fish fry are never at risk of being trapped.

  • Efficient Aeration: Powered by an air pump (sold separately), it continuously oxygenates the water while maintaining a gentle flow that won't stress delicate fish.

  • Weighted Stability: Features a durable, weighted base to keep the filter firmly placed on the substrate without floating.

  • Easy Maintenance: The modular design allows the sponge to be removed and cleaned in seconds, making it one of the most user-friendly filters on the market.

How to Use / Instructions

Initial Preparation: Before placing in your aquarium, soak the sponge in a container of aquarium water for 5–10 minutes. Squeeze the sponge several times while submerged to remove all trapped air bubbles.

Connection: Connect the filter to an external air pump using standard 4mm airline tubing. We recommend installing a check valve in the airline to protect your pump from water backflow.

Cleaning Instructions: Every 2–4 weeks, remove the sponge and squeeze it out gently only in a bucket of dechlorinated aquarium water. Never use tap water, as chlorine will kill the beneficial bacteria living in the sponge.

Application: Ideal for tanks up to 40 liters (10 gallons) or as a secondary "polishing" filter in larger setups.

Replacement: For maximum filtration efficiency, replace the sponge every 6 months or when the foam begins to break down.
