Xilong XY-2810 Bio-Sponge Filter - High-Performance Biological Filtration for Aquariums
Xilong XY-2810 Bio-Sponge Filter - High-Performance Biological Filtration for Aquariums
Provide your aquatic life with a safe and healthy environment using the Xilong XY-2810 Bio-Sponge Filter. This classic, air-driven filtration system is the gold standard for breeders, shrimp keepers, and owners of delicate fish species. The high-density, porous sponge offers an expansive surface area for beneficial bacteria colonization, effectively managing ammonia and nitrite levels while trapping fine debris.
Key Features:
- Maximum Biological Filtration: The high-quality, open-cell foam promotes a robust colony of nitrifying bacteria, essential for a stable nitrogen cycle.
- Fry & Shrimp Safe: The gentle air-driven suction prevents small fry, shrimplets, and slow-moving fish (like Betta or Fancy Goldfish) from being sucked into the filter.
- Dual-Action Aeration: Beyond filtration, the rising air bubbles increase surface agitation, significantly improving oxygen levels and gas exchange.
- Durable Weighted Base: Engineered with a heavy-duty weighted base to ensure the filter remains firmly anchored at the bottom of the tank without floating.
- Modular Design: Easy to disassemble for quick cleaning, making it a low-maintenance solution for both freshwater and marine setups.

How to Use / Instructions
Pre-Installation: Before adding to your tank, soak the sponge in a container of aquarium water for 5–10 minutes. Squeeze the sponge several times while submerged to release trapped air and ensure it sinks properly.
Setup: Connect the filter's intake pipe to an external air pump (sold separately) using standard 4mm airline tubing. It is highly recommended to use a check valve to prevent water backflow into the pump.
Cleaning Protocol: During your routine water changes, remove the sponge and squeeze it gently only in a bucket of dechlorinated aquarium water. Never use tap water, as the chlorine will destroy the beneficial bacterial colony.
Placement: Position the filter in a corner or back of the tank where there is moderate water movement to ensure the most efficient debris collection.
Replacement Cycle: For the best filtration performance, replace the sponge element every 6 months or if the foam begins to lose its elasticity.
