Boyu WF-2035 Hang On Back Filter - 300L/h Waterfall Style HOB Filter for Nano Tanks
Boyu WF-2035 Hang On Back Filter - 300L/h Waterfall Style HOB Filter for Nano Tanks
The Boyu WF-2035 is the most compact and energy-efficient hang-on-back filter in the Boyu WF series, designed specifically for nano aquariums, small planted tanks, and aquascapes. This ultra-quiet waterfall-style filter delivers effective 3-layer filtration in a slimline design that fits snugly on smaller aquarium edges without compromising water quality.
Key Benefits:
- Ideal Flow Rate (300L/h): Delivers 2-3 complete water turnovers per hour for tanks 20-40 liters—perfect for nano setups, shrimp-only tanks, and delicate planted aquariums
- 3-Layer Filtration System: Combines mechanical, chemical, and biochemical filtration to remove debris, odors, and impurities while establishing beneficial bacteria colonies
- Ultra-Low Power (4.6W): Extremely energy-efficient—one of the lowest-wattage HOB filters available; ideal for 24/7 operation without noticeable impact on electricity bills
- Whisper-Quiet Operation: Superior shock absorption and vibration dampening ensure near-silent performance—perfect for bedrooms and office aquariums
- Compact Slim Design: Dimensions 184 x 98 x 301mm—the smallest in the WF series, ideal for tight spaces and nano tank setups
- Waterfall Aeration: Specially designed cascade flow naturally increases oxygen and promotes CO₂ diffusion—excellent for planted nano tanks and sensitive species
- Surface Oil Film Processor: Automatically removes surface biofilm and contaminants for crystal-clear water
- Adjustable Flow Control: Fine-tune water circulation with easy-to-use regulator knob—slower for delicate fry or carpeting plants, faster for standard planted tanks
- Easy Assembly & Maintenance: Simple plug-and-play installation with built-in pump and filter media; no additional equipment needed
- Suitable for All Aquarium Types: Works in freshwater, planted, shrimp, and community nano setups
Perfect For: Nano aquariums (20-40L), small planted tanks, betta tanks with plants, shrimp breeding tanks, desktop aquariums, office aquariums, and aquascapers prioritizing silent, space-saving filtration.

How to Use / Instructions
Installation & Setup:
- Verify power supply: AC 230V/115V, 50/60Hz, 4.6W
- Mount on side or back of nano/small aquarium edge
- Important: Keep inlet tube vertical and positioned as close to water surface as possible for optimal intake
- Critical: Maintain water level above the filter motor at all times to ensure proper auto-priming. If water level falls below motor, the filter will stop when power is cut and may fail to restart automatically
- Fill filter chamber with water completely before powering on
- Plug into power outlet and adjust flow rate with control knob at bottom
- Do not run the filter dry under any circumstances
Operation:
- Maximum flow rate: 300 L/h (5 LPM)
- Recommended tank size: 20-40 liters (5-10 gallons); suitable up to 60 liters with weekly water changes
- Filtering area: 17 sq. cm
- Dimensions: 184mm (L) x 98mm (W) x 301mm (H)
- Operating power: 4.6W
- Frequency: 50/60Hz
Filter Media Maintenance:
- Check mechanical filter (foam/floss) every 1-2 weeks for debris accumulation
- Rinse mechanical media gently in tank water only (never tap water—kills beneficial bacteria)
- Replace or rinse chemical media (activated carbon) monthly or as needed
- Biochemical media only requires cleaning if flow rate noticeably decreases
- Clean intake tube every 2-3 weeks to prevent clogging in nano tanks
- Note: Filtering area is compact (17 sq. cm)—maintain regular cleaning schedule
Water Chemistry:
- Waterfall design naturally increases oxygen levels—excellent for high-oxygen-demand species
- Ideal CO₂ diffusion for low-tech planted nano tanks
- Gentle flow suitable for sensitive shrimp species and delicate plants
- Reduces nitrate accumulation in smaller water volumes with weekly 30-50% water changes
Tank Compatibility:
- Best performance with frequent water changes (30% weekly for heavily planted tanks)
- Ideal for shrimp-only tanks (gentle flow won't disturb substrate or plants)
- Perfect for nano planted aquascapes (30-40L volume)
- Excellent for betta tanks with live plants (low flow prevents stress)
Troubleshooting:
- Filter stops after power outage: Ensure water level is above motor; manually refill if needed
- Reduced flow: Clean intake tube first, then mechanical filter media
- Filter wobbles: Secure mounting brackets firmly to tank edge
- Motor hums but no flow: Prime filter by completely filling chamber with water
- Air bubbles in outlet: Normal during first run; should clear within 30 seconds
Important Safety Notes:
- Never touch the electrical plug with wet hands
- Keep power cord clear of water and away from handling areas
- Unplug before any maintenance or cleaning
- Not suitable for outdoor ponds or large tanks
- Use GFCI outlet recommended
- Do not immerse electrical components in water
- Keep out of reach of children
Recommended Maintenance Schedule:
- Weekly: Inspect intake tube; perform 30-50% water change
- Bi-weekly: Rinse mechanical filter media in tank water
- Monthly: Replace activated carbon; check biochemical media flow
- Quarterly: Deep clean all accessible filter components
