The Boyu WF-2025 is a compact, feature-rich hang-on-back filter engineered for small to medium aquariums. This waterfall-style HOB filter combines advanced 3-layer biochemical filtration with energy-efficient operation, making it ideal for freshwater planted tanks, nano aquascapes, and community setups requiring reliable, whisper-quiet water circulation.

Key Benefits:

  • Balanced Flow Rate (300L/h): Delivers 2-3 complete water turnovers per hour—suitable for tanks 30-50 liters, providing optimal water movement without excessive current
  • 3-Layer Filtration System: Mechanical, chemical, and biochemical filtration removes debris, impurities, and odors while cultivating beneficial nitrobacteria for biological cycling and crystal-clear water
  • Advanced Biochemical Technology: Multi-stage filter media specifically designed to optimize beneficial bacteria colonization—ideal for planted tanks and established aquariums
  • Efficient Power Consumption (11W): Well-balanced power-to-performance ratio; economical for continuous 24/7 operation
  • Super Silent Operation: Excellent shock absorption and vibration dampening ensure near-silent filtration—only pleasant waterfall sounds
  • Waterfall Aeration Design: Specially engineered cascade flow increases oxygen dissolution and aids CO₂ diffusion—perfect for planted aquariums and oxygen-dependent species
  • Surface Oil Film Processor: Automatically removes biofilm and surface contaminants for improved water clarity and oxygen exchange
  • Adjustable Flow Control: Fine-tune water flow with precision knob—slower for delicate plants and fry, faster for heavily stocked tanks
  • Compact Dimensions: 120 x 104 x 282mm profile fits tank rims up to 14mm—space-efficient without clutter
  • Large Filtering Area: 30-100 sq. cm of media surface—more effective than competing compact filters
  • Easy Setup & Maintenance: Built-in pump and filter media; simple assembly with no additional equipment required
  • Suitable for Fresh & Saltwater: Versatile design works across multiple aquarium types

Perfect For: Small planted community tanks (30-50L), nano aquascapes, breeding tanks, shrimp tanks, betta planted setups, desktop aquariums, and any compact aquarium requiring balanced filtration and silent operation.

How to Use / Instructions

Installation & Setup:

  • Verify power supply: AC 230V/115V, 50/60Hz, 11W
  • Mount on side or back of aquarium tank edge
  • Compatible with tank rims up to 14mm thickness
  • Important: Keep inlet tube vertical and positioned as close to water surface as possible
  • Critical: Maintain water level above filter motor at all times to ensure automatic priming. If water level drops below motor, filter will stop during power outage and may not auto-restart
  • Fill filter chamber completely with water before connecting power
  • Insert vertical inlet tube into tank
  • Allow water to settle, then power on
  • Adjust flow rate using control knob at bottom

Operation:

  • Maximum flow rate: 300 L/h
  • Recommended tank size: 30-50 liters (8-13 gallons); suitable up to 60 liters with weekly maintenance
  • Filtering area: 30-100 sq. cm
  • Dimensions: 120mm (L) x 104mm (W) x 282mm (H)
  • Operating power: 11W
  • Frequency: 50/60Hz

Filter Media Maintenance:

  • Inspect media compartment weekly for debris
  • Rinse mechanical sponge every 1-2 weeks in tank water only (never tap water—destroys beneficial bacteria)
  • Replace activated carbon pad monthly or as flow decreases
  • Rinse biochemical media only if flow significantly reduced
  • Clean intake tube every 2 weeks to prevent clogging
  • Supplied with 1 x Active Carbon Pad and 1 x Sponge—keep replacements on hand

Water Chemistry & Circulation:

  • Waterfall design naturally increases oxygen levels—suitable for most freshwater and saltwater species
  • Ideal CO₂ diffusion in planted low-tech tanks; adjust flow downward if surface agitation excessive
  • Maintains pH stability in small water volumes (40L capacity ideal range)
  • Gentle flow suitable for sensitive species: shrimp, fry, delicate plants

Tank Compatibility:

  • Best for 30-50L aquariums with 2-3 weekly water changes
  • Ideal for planted community tanks with moderate bioload
  • Excellent for shrimp-only setups (low flow, gentle circulation)
  • Perfect for nano planted aquascapes (30-40L)
  • Works well with betta tanks featuring live plants

Troubleshooting:

  • Filter stops after power failure: Check water level above motor; refill if below motor position
  • Reduced flow: Clean intake tube first, then mechanical sponge
  • Wobbling during operation: Secure mounting bracket firmly to tank rim
  • Air bubbles in outlet: Normal during startup; should clear within 1-2 minutes
  • Motor hums but no flow: Prime filter by completely filling chamber with water
  • Noise during operation: Ensure motor is seated securely in hanging bracket

Important Safety Notes:

  • Never touch electrical plug with wet hands
  • Keep power cord away from water splashing
  • Unplug before all maintenance and cleaning
  • Not suitable for outdoor ponds or very large tanks
  • Use GFCI outlet recommended for electrical safety
  • Do not submerge electrical components
  • Keep electrical connections dry at all times
  • Keep out of reach of children

Recommended Maintenance Schedule:

  • 2-3 times weekly: Monitor water level and filter operation
  • Weekly: Inspect intake tube; perform 30-50% water change
  • Bi-weekly: Rinse mechanical sponge in tank water
  • Monthly: Replace activated carbon pad; check biochemical media
  • Quarterly: Deep clean all accessible filter parts

Performance Tips:

  • Use in conjunction with Planatopia or similar substrates for enhanced biological filtration
  • Pair with planted tank fertilizers (Planatopia Bloom, Ultra) for optimal plant growth
  • Weekly water changes (30-50%) maximize filter lifespan in small tanks
  • Stagger maintenance: clean one media type per week to preserve beneficial bacteria
